Chasing Something speaks to my need for community in a sometimes lonely world of sports. Growing up in the DC area, Much of my life revolved around team sports: 30 other boys/men, one team, one community. I never understood the aspect of pushing yourself only under your own power; the coach and team were my strength. Had a bad game? Console with your teammates. Fall down? Trust that your teammate will be there to help you up. It wasn't until I stepped away from these teams that I realized how lonely these team sports can truly make you feel.

Skiing, Climbing, Mountain biking - all sports that I would consider to be “Solo Sports”. Unless you compete at the highest level, there’s no one to compete against but yourself, and I loved that. I often found myself heading up to the mountain alone, bumping good music and being the happiest I’ve ever been. Yet soon enough, I found that loneliness again; I missed having a community to help me when I'm down and to push me when I’m at my best.

This Project is focused on my need to find community and on the communities that welcomed me. Everyone is chasing something; for some it’s speed, a V8, or the powder. For me, I was chasing a community.
